“Regard man as a mine rich in gems of inestimable value. Education can, alone, cause it to reveal its treasures, and enable mankind to benefit therefrom.” ~ Bahá’u’lláh
According to Bahá’í teachings, the foundation of all education is spiritual and moral training. Developing our capacity for good and the acquisition of spiritual qualities is regarded as the central purpose of education, which is a life-long process.
This compilation offers a set of basic principles and teaching ideals, rather than a definite and detailed system. It embraces such divers but related concepts and practices as world citizenship; service to humanity; the learning of a trade, craft or profession; raising the status of women; the importance of agriculture; the sciences; philosophy; music and the arts; and the hastening of the unity of humankind through the elimination of prejudice and appreciation of cultural diversity. These principles are directed by a positive vision of the future, and the conviction that true education can prepare us all to play our part in carrying forward an ever-advancing civilization.
