Bahá’í Administration

A selection of letters and messages addressed to the Bahá’ís of the United States and Canada, written between January 1922 and July 1932, that define the essential principles on which the local and national institutions of the Bahá’í Faith are based.

Written during the first ten years of the Formative Age of the Faith, the messages also offer insight into the Bahá’í Faith's growth and illustrate poignantly the great burden Shoghi Effendi shouldered while guiding the fledgling Bahá’í community. As part of the Faith's primary literature, these messages form a fundamental text and crucial guide to understanding and implementing Bahá’í Administration. This is important reading for anyone concerned with hastening the maturation of the institutions Shoghi Effendi laboured so tirelessly to establish.

About Shoghi Effendi

Shoghi Rabbani, known as Shoghi Effendi, was born in 1897 in what is now Israel, and died in 1957 in London, England. He was the grandson of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá and served as the Head of the Bahá’í Faith from 1921 to his death. Shoghi Effendi wrote over 25,000 letters and cables, some of which were later published as books. He also wrote a history of the first century of the Bahá’í Faith titled God Passes By. His writings – half of which are in English and the half of which are in Arabic and Persian - include analyses of world events in light of the Bahá’í scriptures, interpretations of Bahá’í scripture, responses to letters from individuals and Bahá’í institutions, and authoritative translations of writings of Bahá’u’lláh and the Báb.
