Aalia's Guardian Angel

At fifteen Aalia feels she's experienced a lifetime of grief. Not only has she lost her grandmother, and beloved cat Abbey unexpectedly, she's grieving the recent loss of her best friend Charlotte. Her curiosity piques when Liam, Charlotte's younger brother passes on a message from Charlotte from the afterlife stating, 'Help Willow.' But how? She only met Willow, a new student, earlier that day when "buddied" by the Year 10 Coordinator!

A contemporary novella for junior youth (11-15) about coping with grief, the power of friendship, and exploring one of life's big questions — What happens when we die? Written to encourage young people to explore their own beliefs about the afterlife touching on near-death experiences, reincarnation, guardian angels, communicating with the departed, and the Baha'i Faith's perspective.

review: "Let me say that I LOVE this book. It isn't preachy. The characters are believable. The challenges are realistic. The guidance is sparse and well-integrated into the story. The "woo" factor is enough to add some fantasy elements, but you clearly state that they are NOT part of the Baha'i teachings. It was smart having it written from the perspective of the non-Baha'i character, with the Baha'i family really playing an important but secondary role in the story." — Justice St Rain.

review: "Aalia’s Guardian Angel is such an amazing book that can teach lots of junior youth about what the afterlife looks like whilst sharing information written by the Prophet of the Baha'i Faith about the afterlife. Aalia’s Guardian Angel has a wonderful storyline with quotes to support what the author is trying to convey to the Junior Youth which helps their understanding of the afterlife. In this story Aalia has to deal with a lot of grief from important people and pets in her life although she has been challenged to accept that they have now moved on to a better world and that they are happy. Aalia tries not to let this get her down as her friend Liam teaches her about the Baha'i Faith and she realises her relatives are in the eternal world and she will eventually find her missed ones and reunite. The author has written this book knowing that some Junior Youth don't read as much as some kids so when you start to read you can't put it down because of the immense moments of suspense." — Hannah Baker (reader).

review: "Aalia’s Guardian Angel is an outstanding novel that explores complex themes of grief and friendship through an adolescent lens. The story invites the reader to feel deeply for the different characters in the book and question the ambiguity surrounding death. However, these questions are beautifully answered through guidance from the Baha'i Writings, which are planted potently throughout the book."  — Sahana Paymon (reader).
