It is the first day of school for 8-year-old Khéya who has just moved back to South Dakota from New York City. Her new school is named after her heroine Patricia Locke. Khéya is excited and nervous at the same time.

Khéya wakes up early and as she looks through family photo albums, she remembers story after story about Patricia Locke, and naturally reflects on her own life and how it can be characterised by service to the oneness of humanity.
