Promised Day Is Come

The Promised Day is Come is a letter by Shoghi Effendi written during the second World War. Its immediate beneficiaries were the Bahá’ís of the West in 1941 but its ultimate intended audience was all of humanity living through humanity’s transition from childhood to adulthood.

It tells the story of the most recent of God’s messengers speaking to humanity and being heard by only a few. It shows the consequences of such recalcitrance: the downfall of the old order and the obscure birth of the new. It shows the depth of present-day darkness and predicts a new dawn to a humanity which would respond to the Divine Call. But above all, it forcefully reminds human beings that they are not alone in the universe, that existence is not meaningless, that human destiny is significant, and that the way to God is once again open.

About Shoghi Effendi

Shoghi Rabbani, known as Shoghi Effendi, was born in 1897 in what is now Israel, and died in 1957 in London, England. He was the grandson of ‘Abdu’l-Bahá and served as the Head of the Bahá’í Faith from 1921 to his death. Shoghi Effendi wrote over 25,000 letters and cables, some of which were later published as books. He also wrote a history of the first century of the Bahá’í Faith titled God Passes By. His writings – half of which are in English and the half of which are in Arabic and Persian - include analyses of world events in light of the Bahá’í scriptures, interpretations of Bahá’í scripture, responses to letters from individuals and Bahá’í institutions, and authoritative translations of writings of Bahá’u’lláh and the Báb.
